Early Literacy Plan
Markesan District Early Literacy Plan Link
Wis. Stat. §§ 118.016 requires that each school district or independent charter school create and publish an early literacy remediation plan that applies to grades 5K through grade 3. It includes some elements that focus on all students and some elements that focus on students in need of additional supports. For students in need of additional supports, the early literacy remediation plan, is a representation of only part of a local equitable multi-level system of support. Per Wis. Stat. §§ 118.016, the early literacy remediation plan must only detail supports provided to students performing below the 25th percentile on the reading readiness assessment(s) and engaged in a personal reading plan, and therefore, does not provide parents or caregivers with a complete picture of the entire continuum of supports for reading.
Dyslexia Guidebook
2019 Wisconsin Act 86 requires the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to develop, publish, and regularly review an informational guidebook on dyslexia and related conditions. In accordance with Act 86, the guidebook addresses screening, instruction and intervention, and resources to support improved learning outcomes for students with characteristics of dyslexia and related conditions. School districts are also required to provide a link to the guidebook on their websites.

Curriculum
The Markesan District Curriculum is aligned to the Wisconsin State Standards.
Academic standards
We continue to work to develop lessons and units that help students meet standards, grow future-ready skills and prepare to "transition successfully" to their next step in the learning journey.

Markesan District Schools assess student with local assessments and with state-required testing.
